OffdIsland is a Malta-based family that continuously seeks out new experiences and explorations, both locally and abroad. They aim to inspire other families to embark on similar adventures by sharing itineraries and promoting activities related to exploring natural surroundings. With a strong foundation built through social media, they recognised a growing demand for curated outdoor activities for families, such as hiking tours and treasure hunts.

The Challenge

The main challenge for OffdIsland was moving beyond the limitations of their Instagram account to offer a richer and more interactive experience for their growing audience. Up until they reached out to us, Instagram had been their sole platform, but they wanted to establish a full brand identity for their developing business. With increasing requests for detailed itineraries and travel advice, they needed a centralised platform that could not only share blog posts and guidance but also feature a dynamic map, event management, and an online merchandise store. The website needed to be user-friendly, visually engaging, and tailored for families seeking adventure.

Our Solution

To tackle this issue, we developed a dedicated website that served as a comprehensive hub for outdoor adventures. We focused on creating an organised and easily navigable platform where families could find detailed itineraries, book activities, and purchase necessary gear—all in one place. The interactive map feature was particularly important, as it allowed users to explore locations and activities in their vicinity, offering a more immersive experience.

  • Branding and UX/UI Design: To capture the essence of OffdIsland, we engaged in multiple brainstorming sessions, both internally and with the client, to create a branding that truly reflects their identity. The goal was to make the website as interactive and playful as possible, embodying their love for family and nature. The result was a vibrant, user-friendly UX/UI design that mirrors the adventurous spirit of the brand. The website is fully responsive, ensuring a seamless experience across all devices—perfect for families on the move.
  • Activities Feature: We designed a feature that enables users to browse a list of trails or activities added by the admin, complete with detailed descriptions, images, activity types, and nearby attractions. Users can also purchase a detailed trail map, as well as submit and view reviews for each activity.
  • Map Integration: We designed and developed an interactive map to showcase the locations of experiences, activities, and their respective trails. Hovering over a trail reveals key details such as activity type, difficulty, and time estimate. Users can toggle between satellite and terrain views, and expand the map for broader exploration. Additionally, they can filter trails by distance, time, attractions, difficulty, and activity type, making it easy to find the perfect adventure.
  • Events Management: OffdIsland offers a feature for users to view and book events created by the admin. Each event includes comprehensive details such as name, description, image, prices, dates, times, and venue information. Events also have multiple time slots per day and participant limits for both adults and children. The system is also designed to validate the number of participants before processing a booking to ensure availability.
  • Product Store: The e-commerce functionality enables users to browse and purchase tangible products like outdoor gear from OffdIsland, as well as custom itineraries for personalized adventures. Users can easily sort products by price and hover over images to see alternate views. The system also notifies users when a product is out of stock and sends them an email once the item is restocked.
  • Blog: The blog serves as a storytelling platform, where OffdIsland shares detailed experiences, tips, and itineraries with their audience. Each blog post can be filtered by destination and attractions, offering users a customizable reading experience.

The Result

This project allowed us to deliver a platform that combined detailed exploration tools with modern e-commerce functionality, filling a gap that the client previously struggled with on social media platforms. It was an interesting challenge for us, and we are pleased to see how the platform has brought OffdIsland’s vision to life.
